Şeytan Kalesi, Çıldır, Ardahan, Turkey
One kilometre northwest of Çıldır town towards Ardahan, a signpost points right to Yıldırımtepe village. Fork left at the beginning of the village and park where the houses end, 1.5km from the main road. A walking track, paved most of the way, leads a further 1.5km to the truly spectacular Şeytan Kalesi, standing sentinel on a rocky bluff above the plunging gorge and accessible by one narrow bridge of land.
Possibly of Urartu origin, the castle was later a Georgian stronghold for several centuries. Georgians know it as Qajis Tsikhe. The shell of an old church stands within the castle walls.
