Explore Tudor heritage in historic Bournville. If you’re looking for a unique venue in Birmingham to hire for a children’s party or exhibition, Selly Manor Museum is the perfect option. In this section, you can find out about hiring the museum for your event or occasion. Made up of two beautiful buildings, Selly Manor Museum is in the heart of Bournville village in Birmingham and has a fascinating history. Step into Selly Manor to discover how the Tudors cooked, dressed and lived over 500 years ago. Explore the parlour with its oak furniture, then wander through to the dining hall and large kitchen with its impressive fireplace and smoking cupboard.
Climb the stairs to explore the bed chamber where you’ll find a bed that belonged to Welsh Archdeacon Edmund Prys. In the solar room, both adults and children can dress up in our stunning replica Tudor costumes and pose in front of our mirror before taking a selfie to share with us on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. From there you can visit the garret where you’ll see a Priest Hole and find armour to try on. Every room has information books for visitors who want to find out more about the story of Selly Manor and there are activity boxes for a real hands-on experience.
Guided tours, trails and events
We have a free children’s trail, helping little ones to explore the museum in a fun, hands-on way which you can pick up when you purchase your ticket. You can also combine your visit to Selly Manor Museum with a self-guided walking tour of Bournville village, which you can find out more about in Exploring Bournville village. At weekends in the summer we often run guided tours for the public, please visit the Events section of our site for further information. We also hold regular special and popular events and activities at Selly Manor Museum which you can also see in our Events. We may be a smaller museum, but we still have plenty to explore and would recommend at least an hour to make the most of everything we have to offer. We welcome all visitors and aim to provide a friendly, safe, accessible space for everyone. If you have any queries, or need any assistance, please contact us.
