Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) is an absolutely fascinating airport, and it’s much more than just a place to catch a flight; it’s an experience in itself! The airport is named after Alberto Santos-Dumont, the Brazilian aviation pioneer who was a contemporary of the Wright brothers and a celebrated figure in aviation history. The original terminal building is a masterpiece of early modernist architecture from the 1940s and has been designated a national landmark. So, while it’s a busy domestic airport, it’s also a place with immense cultural significance and a breathtakingly beautiful gateway to one of the world’s most spectacular cities.
