Roseslottet

Somber, walk-through art installation detailing the Nazi occupation & persecution of Norway’s Jews. Rose Castle is a large-scale art installation on Holmenkollen near Frognerseteren that commemorates 80 years since the attack on Norway in 1940 and the 75th anniversary of Norway’s liberation in 1945. Rose Castle tells the story of the occupation years when core values like democracy, humanism and the rule of law were brutally suppressed.

At its heart are well-known and forgotten stories: the suffering of prisoners of war, everyday life, the resistance in the north and the south of Norway, as well as the fate of the war sailors. Special emphasis is put on the pogroms against the Jewish population in Norway and on anti-Semitism before and during WW2. The installation consists of over 200 paintings by famous artist Vebjørn Sand as well as sculptures by Vebjørn and Eimund Sand. There are regularly scheduled guided tours through the installation
