Romodanovskiy Vokzal, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia

Romodanovsky railway station or Kazan station – the former second railway station of the Gorky-Kazan station existed until 1974 and closed after a landslide and dismantling of the railway.

The station and the station were built for 4 years as the terminal station of the Nizhny Novgorod-Kazan railway in 1904.

The name of the station came from the name of Romodanovo village in Mordovia, where there was a station station with the Moscow-Kazan railway. Later the station was renamed to Timiryazevo, and even later to the Red Knot .

Romodanovsky station on the embankment of the Oka, changed the names more than once: Romodanovsky, in the 30s Arzamas, and then Kazan station Gorky.

In 1913, trains departed from the Romodanovsky train station to Lukoyanov, Timiryazev and Kharkov. In 1937 – to Kharkov, Ruzaevka and Arzamas, three suburban to Kudmya and one more – to the station Metallist (Pavlovo).

And in the 50’s the train began to depart from Kazan to Kazan. After the construction of the railway bridge in 1961 in Sartakow, the significance of the railway along the banks of the Oka River decreased significantly, but commuter trains of the Arzamas and Pavlovsk directions continued to depart from the station.

After a series of landslides in 1974, it was decided not to restore the railway, since maintaining the tracks in the landslide zone for the sake of several trains per day was inadvisable. The railway was dismantled, and the trains began to arrive at the Mysa station a few kilometers from the Romodanovsky railway station.

After the closure of the railway to the station Gorky-Kazan building was abandoned and began to decline. Did not help him and inclusion in the number of architectural monuments.

In 2001, NovaCard bought the station building, after which it was decided to restore it.

The authors of the project for the reconstruction of the Romodanovsky railway station of Nizhny Novgorod are the architects VVZubkov, LAZubkova, AKBubnova, S.Yu.Lyubimov and I.E. Kropiwian. For their work, the authors of the reconstruction of the station were awarded a bronze diploma of the XIII International Festival “Architecture 2005” , held in Moscow.
