Rock formations of Zikrit
When visiting the Ras Abrouq rock formation in the Zikrit region of Qatar, it’s easy to forget that you’re just an hour from the city and not on an entirely different planet. The coastal winds have shaped these strange landscape formations of limestone rock, sculpting spectacular natural pillars that stand over 10 metres tall.
Nearby are the unspoilt sandy beaches which are the perfect spot for some coastal camping. Shelter, provided by the rock formations, mean that lighting a campfires easy and you’ll be grilling up your barbeque favourites in no time at all – but make sure you come fully prepared, there’s no shops anywhere close by. Don’t think that you’ll be short on things to do either. The surrounding area is filled with forts and forgotten buildings for you to explore along with an abundance of wildlife. A wild deer reserve is just a short drive away and definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re looking to catch the national animal of Qatar, the Arabian Oryx.
