Rocher de la Vierge, Biarritz, Aquitaine, France

The rock, which owes its name to the statue of the Virgin placed at its summit in 1865, was exploited by Napoleon III as anchor of the dike of the Refuge port that he wanted to create.

The rock was therefore accessible from the ground by a wooden bridge and pierced with a tunnel allowing the transport of blocks of stone intended for the construction of the dike.
