Rice Mill of San Sabba, Trieste, Italy

The Rice Mill of San Sabba – factory for rice processing built starting in 1898 – was used after the September 8, 1943 dall’occupatore as a Nazi prison camp, and intended following the sorting of direct deported to Germany and Poland, the depot for confiscated property and the detention and removal of hostages, partisans, political prisoners and Jews. On April 4, 1944 it was put into operation even a crematorium. In 1965 the Rice Mill of San Sabba was declared a National Monument by decree of the President of the Republic. In 1975 the Rice Mill, renovated by architect Roman Boico, became the Civic Museum of the Rice Mill of San Sabba.Visit Italy. Italy Epic Route © Monika Newbound
