Richard Masters

Richard Masters is the current CEO of the Premier League he was appointed to the position in December 2019 after serving as the Interim Chief Executive for a year. Richard is a British football executive and the current Chief Executive of the Premier League, the highest tier of association football in England. Richard continues to play a pivotal role in shaping English football through his leadership in the Premier League.

Early Education and Sports Affiliation:

  • Masters attended the independent Solihull School during his early education.
  • As a boyhood fan, he developed an affinity for Everton.
  • He later pursued a BSc Economics and Geography degree at University College London.

Career Path:

  • Masters served as the Marketing Manager for the England and Wales Cricket Board from 1994 to 2000.
  • Subsequently, he held the position of Commercial Director  for the English Football League from 2001 to 2006.
  • In 2006, he joined the Premier League as the Director of Sales and Marketing, a role he held until November 2018
  • Following the resignation of Richard Scudamore in December 2018, Masters served as the Interim Chief Executive*for a year.
  • In November 2019, he was officially appointed as the Chief Executiveof the Premier League.

Responsibilities:

As the Chief Executive, Masters oversees various aspects, including:

  • Leading negotiations on new media rights contracts.
  • Resolving club disputes and ownership issues
  • Managing overall operations  within the Premier League.

Personal Life:

  • Masters is married to Elizabeth, daughter of John Fulnetby, and they have two sons.

The Premier League

The Premier League is the top professional football division in England, widely regarded as one of the best and most competitive football leagues in the world. Established in 1992, it replaced the old First Division and has since grown into a global sporting phenomenon. The league consists of 20 teams that play each other twice a season (home and away), amounting to 38 matches for each club. The season runs from August to May.

Each season, the bottom three teams are relegated to the Championship, while the top two Championship teams, along with a third team that wins a playoff, are promoted to the Premier League. The league is known for attracting some of the world’s best talent and managers, contributing to its massive global fanbase. Its broadcasting deals are among the most lucrative in world sports, with matches being aired in over 200 countries. The Premier League has also produced intense rivalries and unforgettable moments, making it one of the most exciting leagues to watch.
