Ribble Steam Railway and Museum

Visit the Ribble Steam Railway for heritage train rides along our line. The three mile return trip includes crossing the dock swing bridge (a unique feature on our line) and then along the bank of the River Ribble, giving interesting views of the City of Preston.

Are you planning to come to Preston, Lancashire? Why not include a visit to our Steam Railway and Museum. Have a train ride and look around the largest collection of industrial locomotives in the country. Learn more about what was, at one time, the biggest inland dock in England. Also a chance to see behind the scenes and see restoration work underway on both steam and diesel locomotives. During your visit, you¢ll have the chance to get ¡hands on¢ with several of the exhibits in our spacious indoor museum.

Children can climb on the footplate of a steam engine, move the levers and blow the whistle, then climb in the guard¢s van and wave the flag. Over in the workshop, you¢ll gain a rare ¡behind the scenes¢ glimpse of the work in progress by our volunteer workforce. The unique blend of Victorian techniques and modern technology produce some astonishing results! Our ticket prices include unlimited travel on the day of admission, and access to the museum and workshop. When you¢ve enjoyed a ride on one of our trains and admired the exhibits in our museum, why not relax with a drink and a snack in our tea room?

Well this hidden gem is fantastic. Volunteers and workers are so lovely and enthused by engineering and history. Great for kids to get their imaginations going, and plenty of space to roam! Working railway behind the museum as well. The Santa train is amazing value for money, and everyone is so generous and kind. Free parking is a bonus. Also, amazingly allergy aware, providing gluten free alternatives, so impressive as our party had multiple allergies. So much thought to the place!
