Reserve Partielle De Faune D’ansongo-Menaka, Ansongo, Malí

Ansongo, 95 km from Gao, halfway between Gao and the Nigerian border, is a beautiful village, beaten by the desert storm. Little tourist, the home is still really authentic. To get there, there is the bus (about 2500 FCFA) or the pinasse (about 1500 FCFA). In this last case, count about 10 hours of boat. There are very beautiful walks.

The Ansongo-Menaka Partial Wildlife Reserve covers more than 1,750,000 ha between Ansongo, Menaka and the Niger Loop. A 4×4 is necessary to make the visit. Tacharane and Haoussa-Foulane are two villages close to Gao towards Ansongo, where there is a good chance to see hippos. Be aware however that taking a regular pinnacle Gao-Ansongo, you are unlikely to be able to make the round trip in the day. For this you will have to rent your own pinasse.

Note that the region of Ansongo-Menaka is strongly discouraged tourists by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
