RAK National Museum, Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates

This local-history museum occupies a 19th-century fort that was the residence of the Qawassim rulers until 1964. Behind ornate wooden doors awaits the usual ethnological assortment as well as artefacts from archaeological digs in the area, including at Julfar, an important port between the 14th and 17th centuries. Gems include intricately patterned Iron Age softstone vessels and terracotta urns.
