Radschlagerbrunnen

Cartwheeling has been a tradition in Düsseldorf for centuries. Myths surround the origin of this sporting ritual. The origin remains uncertain, but evidence of the Düsseldorf custom can be found in many places in the city.

This is also the case on the Burgplatz, where the Radschläger fountain has stood since 1954. The two cartwheeling boys made of bronze were made by the sculptor Alfred Zschorsch. The inscription in Düsseldorfer Platt “Radschläger wolle mer blieve, wie jeck et de Minschen och drieve” means: Radschläger we want to remain, no matter how crazy people drive it.
