This modern hotel is more exciting inside than out, with a vast light-flooded atrium lobby with a distinctive geometric design. Part of the bar (with a big-screen TV) is located here, but another part is in a former brick-built coalmonger’s cottage adjoining the main building, with cosier nooks for afternoon tea or cocktails, some featuring organic local Liverpool Gin.
The décor throughout is tasteful and modern, if slightly corporate in parts. Bright splashes of colour lift a monochromatic background palette. Parts of the hotel, including the restaurant, many guestrooms and parts of the spa, have dramatic views of the River Mersey and its channel into the Irish Sea.
