Rabat Old Market, Rabat, Morocco

Rabat Old Town represents the city’s vibrant downtown area. With buildings and houses painted white, this picturesque organic urban core features many scenic gardens and historic sites. Originally created in the 12th century by Andalusian Muslim refugees fleeing from Spain, the Old Town grew in a vibrant urban area packed with traditional shops, cafes, restaurants, and stalls selling bagged mint tea, leatherwear, bags, and accessories. Craft and antique shops showcase Berber carpets and embroidered fabrics, as well as copper pieces. Or visit in the evening; the Old Town has a bustling nightlife.
