Quadrado Historic Area, Trancoso, State of Bahia, Brazil

Tourist destinations on the coast of Bahia are usually marked by beaches and natural beauties, but the village of Trancoso has much more to offer! Its historical center, called “Square” enchants tourists with its colonial houses and their jack, almond and other old trees. A soccer field guarantees entertainment for the children.

Listed as a historical landmark by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan), the Square is full of colorful little houses that make up the landscape. Around the Square there are inns, craft shops and restaurants (both chic and rugged), responsible for the city’s entertainment. The Square is where it all happens!

One of the local attractions is the Igreja de São João. Built in 1656, the Church is located on top of a cliff, 400 m high, with its back towards the beautiful green sea.

The numerous bars, with tables outside for those who want to enjoy the view, start to open early evening and candles light the entire Square, making the city even more charming.
