Praca Goncalves Dias, Sao Luis, State of Maranhao, Brazil

The view of São Marcos Bay is the most impressive one that passes through Gonçalves Dias Square in São Luís. It was inaugurated in 1973 with the name of the famous poet from Maranhão, who also won in his honor a monument right in the center of the square.

By attracting passionate couples who visit the place to enjoy the magnificent view of the sunset, the square is also known as Largo dos Amores and Largo dos Remédios because of the church opposite. In fact, the Gonçalves Dias Square was built only because of the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Church, protector of Commerce and Navigation, which was the first building in that region of São Luís.

Since 1955, Gonçalves Dias Square has been registered by the Historical Heritage Institute And National Artistic (IPHAN).
