Rio Branco Square , also known as Marco Zero , is a public space located in the Recife neighborhood of the homonymous city , capital of Pernambuco .

The place is close to the Port of Recife and houses the Marco Zero of the city of Recife (installed on January 31 , 1938 , by the Automobile Club of Pernambuco). It is from this milestone that all official measures of local road distances are made. Officially known as Barão Square in Rio Branco, it is located on Avenida Alfredo Lisboa connected to Marquês de Olinda, Rio Branco and Barbosa Lima streets.

In addition to the Zero Square, there is a bust of the Baron of Rio Branco , sculpture of the Frenchman Félix Charpeutier , placed there in 1917 in bronze with a height of 2,5m and was inaugurated under a stone pedestal of 4,20m, Sculpted by Corbiniano Vilaça, on August 19 of the same year. Giving the work a height of 7m.

The north of the square is bathed by the estuary of the port of Recife , formed by the Capibaribe River . The estuary is protected by a natural dam, which is home to the Sculpture Park with the famous 32-meter high Crystal Column, inspired by a flower discovered by Burle Marx and several other ceramic works by the artist Francisco Brennand . In the dam there is also the House of Baths , which no longer exists, and the Lighthouse of Recife . The dike has an extension 4km in length and begins in the neighborhood of Brasília Teimosa .
