The Pocket Museum, officially known as the “Hoosesagg Museum” (Pants Pocket Museum), is a truly unique and charming attraction in Basel, Switzerland. It’s not a traditional museum you can walk into, but rather the smallest museum in the country, contained within a two-foot-by-two-foot window in the door of a 600-year-old private house in the pedestrian alley Imbergässlein. Since 1995, its dedicated homeowners, Dagmar and Matthias Vergeat, have delighted passersby by regularly rotating fascinating collections of everyday objects and memorabilia that can typically fit in a pocket, making each visit a fresh discovery.
Given its highly unconventional nature as a window display in a private residence, the Pocket Museum does not have a dedicated website of its own, nor does it maintain formal social media channels or a public phone number. Information about it is usually found on tourism sites like Atlas Obscura or Basel’s official tourism pages, which may feature photos or brief descriptions. While the owners do welcome proposals for new exhibits from collectors, this is typically handled informally and not through a public contact point or website.
