Platboom Beach, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa
Travel about 65 km from the centre of Cape Town along the M3 to reach Platboom Beach. It’s worth the drive as is a lovely beach, nestled along a beautiful coastline in the Cape of Good Hope Nature reserve where you are likely to spot many different animals roaming the beach and an abundance of birds.
Kite surfing and windsurfing are very popular sports here with great riding conditions. But please note that the waves can get rather large here and although it is not unsafe to swim here you should do so cautiously as there are no lifeguards.
Platboom Beach is extremely secluded with a stunning landscape and is ideal for photographers or those just wanting a quick snapshot of the game often roaming the area or the exquisite waters. Sand boarding down the dunes is great fun and don’t forget the rocky areas along the edge of the beach creating rock pools that are waiting to be explored.
