Place des Martyrs, Cotonou, Benin
Learn a part of the 20th century history of Benin by visiting Place des Martyrs. The monument stands as a memorial to the victims of the coup d’état that Bob Denard and his mercenaries tried in 1977. The monument features three statues of soldiers with weapons in their hands and a flag behind them. If you’d like to linger, you can sit on the staircase here and soak up your surroundings.
