Piscinas Naturais de Pajuçara, Maceió, State of Alagoas, Brazil

Visiting the Pajuçara Natural Pools is among the most popular attractions for those who visit Maceió . And not for less. Just 2km off the coast of the capital of Alagoas, sand banks full of coral form, during the low tide , a true pool of clear waters.

We spell above the words “low tide” because it is essential for the ride to be fruitful. The smaller the tide, as we will explain later, the more profitable and beautiful the tour will be.

To get to the natural pools of Pajuçara, you must take one of the accredited rafts on the beach of Pajuçara, one of the most popular in Maceió. There are even boats adapted for wheelchair users. The trip lasts only about 10 to 15 minutes, according to the wind, and already provides a beautiful view of the city and that “blue-green” sea to fill your eyes.

Upon reaching the shoals, rafts anchor side by side around the pools, where tourists can swim along with colorful coral and fish (the rafters often give rations to lure them). For those who want, you can rent snorkeling gear for snorkeling and even kayaks.

Some of the rafts serve as bars with drinks and snacks. Incredibly, even in the middle of the sea, there is a waiter service and even styrofoam tables that float for the convenience of the visitors. Prices are normal, as on the mainland, and you can even pay with card in some cases.

During my visit, on a Friday outside the high season, the stocking was “ok”. In spite of many tourists, I got to enjoy it a lot and I was happy to clean the water (there was no trash floating – something sadder in such a place?).

When the tide begins to rise, visitors are called by the jangadeiros. It’s time to go back to the city. If you arrive at the right time, you can enjoy about 2 hours in the water.
