The stunning and magnificent Piazza del Campo built around 1297. is the principal public space of the historic center of Siena, Tuscany, Italy and is regarded as one of Europe’s greatest medieval squares. It is renowned worldwide for its beauty and architectural integrity. Piazza del Campo is one of the most beautiful squares in the world, is the heart of Siena and Siena. And ‘so it called because it was once a green space intended for markets and fairs.It is shaped like a shell divided into 9 sectors in memory of the Nine Lords who ruled the city from 1287 to 1355. The brick paving willing to “knife” dates from 1347 and covers an irregular space that drops down. The outside of the square is in sandstone and during the Palio is covered with tuff.
