Petter Dass Museum, Sandnessjøen, Nordland, Norway

The Petter Dass Museum and Alstahaug are the centuries-old town of Nordland county municipality. The museum conveys the cultural heritage after the poet priest Petter Dass. Alstahaugtunet is located in the old palace, the medieval church of Alstahaug and a modern museum building. As a symbol of the centuries-old town and its special connection with the poet priest Petter Dass, the monumental architecture of the main building itself is an expression of an understanding of the past, a belief in the future and an inspiration for the present.

Here you can visit our exhibitions all year round, enjoy a taste of traditional rich country food in Margrethe’s café, or shop at our rich museum shop. The museum at Alstahaug consists of several buildings. The oldest buildings in the yard are the old prestige from the mid-18th century. In the prestigious estate there are changing exhibits and interiors from the 17th and 17th century. There are regular tours in the prestigious house during the summer season. This lasts from 15 June to 15 August. Out of season, the old buildings are open only by appointment. The peaceful and beautiful Alstahaugtunet with the surrounding area is a popular recreation area for locals and visitors alike.

The tomb, church, cemetery and buildings are also protected by the Riksantikvaren. A new museum building and parking facility was opened at Alstahaug on October 20, 2007. The new building, designed by the Snøhetta AS architectural firm, is the main building of the Petter Dass Museum.
