Penzance Harbour
The maritime heritage of Penzance is centred on its harbour which has, for hundreds of years, provided the lifeblood of the town. Along with Newlyn – just a mile to the west – it is the first secure harbour and anchorage on the coast of the English Channel on entering from the Atlantic Ocean, Penzance harbour had a long trading tradition.
Penzance Harbour consists of an inner drying area, and a wet basin accessed through a gate only open for 3 hours or so each high water. Once inside boats can lay in complete safety at reasonable rates. The wet dock can be used to leave your boat unattended for a few days to go exploring ashore if bad weather delays your plans. Penzance harbour and Newlyn which is situated just about a mile to the west are the first secure harbours and anchorage you find when you enter the English Channel from the Atlantic. The Harbourmasters office is situated on the Quay and there is a commercial dock too and even a dry dock for servicing.
