Pedra Ana Chata, Monumento Natural Estadual da Pedra do Baú, State of San Paulo, Brazil

Located in the municipality of São Bento do Sapucaí (SP), Pedra do Baú is a beautiful rock formation that enchants all who visit it, especially climbers. It is part of the Baú Complex, formed by the rock formations Bauzinho (1,760 m), Ana Chata (1,670 m), and the Pedra do Baú (1,950 m). Located in the middle of the Serra da Mantiqueira, from its summit you can see, on one side, a large part of the Campos do Jordão mountain range, and on the other the beautiful mountains of Minas Gerais.

The stones that form the chest complex are visited by a large number of tourists and also by professional and amateur climbers.

During the months of May to September the region, which is 21km away from the charming Campos do Jordão, offers an excellent climate for the practice of rock climbing and a multitude of routes. Pedra do Baú is home to some of the most important sports climbing routes and also long-lasting (known as big walls ) in the country.

It has walls to climb up to 400 meters. The Climbing and Boulders Manual – Pedra do Baú and Sul de Minas , written by climber Eliseu Frechou, presents the region’s pathways with details.

For those who are looking for a lighter program, Bauzinho is the best option since the rock is accessible to anyone without great physical effort, with a small 10-minute walk (from the parking lot). From the summit it is possible to see the Stone of the Chest, pointed straight ahead, with its great rocky wall. Beautiful view.
