Palais du Baron d’Erlanger, Tunisia

Ennejma Ezzahra, “Sparkling Star” or the “House of the Baron”, as it is called more commonly, is one of Tunisia’s treasures.

Built in the beginning of the XXth century on the hill of Sidi Bou Saïd, giving out on a striking panorama, at once majestic and sober, the former residence of the d’Erlanger family arouses admiration by its strange splendor and the immediate respect one feels when facing works of art that draw together men and cultures.

It was indeed designed, rooted and maintained for decades as the cornerstone of the Euro-Mediterranean dialogue and a token of love for Tunisian culture.

It is often said and quite rightly that Ennejma Ezzahra is a model of successful Neo-Moorish architecture (also called “Arabisance”), a palace interlinking the styles handed down by Arabic civilization and those of the beginning of European Art Nouveau.
