Olumo Rock, Muhammadu Jega Rd, Nigeria
Enjoy panoramic views from Olumo Rock, a massive outcrop of granite and a natural shelter. Used as a fortress by Egba people against the advancing Fulani in the early 19th century, the rock is dotted by numerous caves with traditional stoneware and tools.
A modern nine-story observation tower will take you up to the level of the caves; follow a skywalk to the ancient hideouts, or free climb the rock. From the terrace on top, take in a sweeping view of Abeokuta’s roofs sprawling across the horizon. A popular tourist attraction, the site also has an arts and crafts center selling souvenirs.
