Old Town Bern, Unesco Site, Bern, Switzerland

The city of Bern is not only the capital of Switzerland but also belongs to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage . The heart of Bern is the wonderful old town with its six-kilometer-long arcades, where visitors can find shelter from the rain and shadows during their strolls.

In addition to these unique arbours, the Zytglogge clock tower, the cloister tower, Renaissance fountains, the cathedral and the largely preserved sandstone facades, which form the image of the city of Berne, founded in 1191.

In many cellar lounges there are bars and cultural establishments as well as specialty shops to be discovered. The old town of Bern is surrounded by the River Aare. The river is not only a river for the inhabitants – the Aareshwimmen and Aareböötle belong to them in the summer. And because Bern was built on a peninsula, everything is close to each other and can be reached on foot, by tram or bus soon.

Bern Tourismus offers guided tours through the old town of Bern , where you will discover everything you need to know and the most beautiful anecdotes about the heart of the Swiss capital.
