Ambassador Nuno Brito

His Excellency Nuno Filipe Alves Salvador e Brito, born on August 5, 1959, in Angola, is a seasoned Portuguese diplomat currently serving as the Ambassador of Portugal to the United Kingdom. Brito began his diplomatic career in 1984 after obtaining a law degree from the University of Lisbon. Throughout his extensive career, he has held various significant positions, including Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Co-Chair of the U.S.-Portuguese Standing Bilateral Commission, and Deputy Permanent Representative of Portugal at the United Nations. His previous ambassadorial postings include the United States and the European Union, where he dealt with complex issues such as Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brito’s diplomatic journey has been marked by his involvement in both bilateral and multilateral relations. As Portugal’s Ambassador to the United States, he focused on deepening ties in science, technology, and energy, while emphasizing strong political, military, and security cooperation. His tenure in Brussels as Ambassador to the European Union was notable for managing critical situations like the UK’s exit from the EU and the Ukrainian crisis. Now in the UK, Ambassador Brito aims to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Portugal and the UK, emphasizing both historical ties and future collaborations, particularly in education, research, and trade.
