Teatro Nuevo Apolo

Located in the center of Madrid in Pl. Tirso de Molina, just 300m from the Puerta del Sol, the Teatro Apolo was inaugurated on December 10, 1932 as Teatro Progreso with the zarzuela La verbena de la Paloma. At that time it was called Teatro Progreso because it was the name of the square until 1939. It was the project of the architects Urosa and Saavedra de la Torre, who made a pseudo-baroque and deco design. From the large entrance hall you can access the upper floors and on the mezzanine floor you can see a bas-relief alluding to zarzuela..Como Nuevo Apolo was opened on December 17, 1987, representing an Antología de la Zarzuela. The promoter of this stage was the Granada director José Tamayo and its owner Ramón Madurga, grandson of the promoter of the theater. Since then there have been great shows of different disciplines such as dance, concerts, musicals, plays such as Sara Baras, Joaquín Cortés, Tricicle, La Cubana, “Maribel y la Extraña Familia”, “Chicago”, the first version in Spain of “Los Miserables”, Los Morancos, “Avenue Q” or “El Médico” among the most recent. In August 2020 SOM Produce takes over the property, its management and programming, embarking on a remodeling process that will last for more than a year and a half. In 2021, this remodeling of the Teatro Apolo was inaugurated by Antonio Díaz, the MAGO POP, the highest grossing illusionist in Europe, with his impressive show “Nada Es Imposible Broadway Edition”. On September 29, 2022, the musical “Singing in the Rain” premieres.
