The Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, located at 385 Sussex Drive in Ottawa, stands as the city’s oldest and largest church, serving as the seat of the Roman Catholic archbishop. Constructed between 1841 and 1865, the basilica showcases a blend of Neoclassical and Gothic Revival architectural styles. Its twin spires and gilded Madonna are prominent features visible from various points in the city. The interior is adorned with intricate wood carvings, stained glass windows, and a starry ceiling, reflecting the craftsmanship of artisans from the 19th century. In 1990, it was designated a National Historic Site of Canada, recognizing its architectural and historical significance.
Visitors are welcome to explore the basilica daily, with opening hours from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and on Sunday from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM.
