Nauener Gate, Potsdam, Germany

The gate is one of the earliest structures built on the European continent following the example of English Neo-Gothic architecture. The Nauen Gate is one of the three preserved city gates of Potsdam and it was built in 1755. The goal was to enhance the view from the city center to the Nauener Straße. The king deliberately chose a Gothic, mediaeval architecture to give the city gate the appearance of a higher age value.
