National Museum of Ravenna

The Museo Nazional di Ravenna or National Museum of Ravenna displays a collection of archeologic, artistic and artisanal objects. It is located in the Benedictine monastery of San Vitale on via San Vitale, Ravenna, Italy.

The National Museum of Ravenna is housed within the historic San Vitale complex, a former Benedictine monastery located adjacent to the renowned 6th-century Basilica of San Vitale. Established in 1885, the museum showcases a rich collection of archaeological and artistic artifacts that chronicle the city’s historical significance.

The museum’s origins trace back to the 18th century, with collections amassed by the scholarly monks of Ravenna’s major abbeys, particularly the Camaldolese monks of Classe. Today, visitors can explore a diverse array of exhibits, including funerary steles, Roman inscriptions, and a variety of sculptures.
