National Museum of Antiquities and ancient Islamic art, Algiers, Algeria 

The National Museum of Antiquities and Islamic Art was established in 1897. It is the oldest museum in Algeria and Africa, and it covers the history of Algerian art for the past 2,500 years. In 1911, it was described as having “the finest collection of the kind in Algeria.” The museum holds objects related to Algeria and Rome.

The museum is located in the Park of Galland, also known as the Park of Freedom. The collection is divided into two sections. The first section includes classical antiques such as sculptures, mosaics and bronzes discovered at a range of archeological sites in Algeria. The second section is a collection of Muslim Occident and Near East art, which includes manuscripts, a collection of coins, carpets and ceramics.
