National Gallery of Canada

This spacious museum focused on Canadian art also has global artworks, 2 cafes & a seasonal lounge. Located at 380 Sussex Drive, the National Gallery is Canada’s premier art institution. It houses an extensive collection of Canadian, Indigenous, and international art, including works by the Group of Seven and contemporary installations. The gallery’s striking glass architecture and iconic spider sculpture, Maman, make it a must-visit destination

The National Gallery of Canada is an architectural masterpiece designed by Moshe Safdie. The glass and granite structure, with its signature glass tower, provides breathtaking views of the Ottawa River. The building itself is as impressive as the art it houses, including a giant spider sculpture, “Maman,” at its entrance.

Home to the most important collection of contemporary Indigenous, Canadian and European art in the country, and welcoming more than 400,000 visitors every year*, the National Gallery of Canada acknowledges its responsibility to share our collective story through the visual arts. The works of art that live in the Gallery hold significant power. They are tools to teach us about our different truths and hidden parts of our histories. The collection contributes to our collective learning and growth. Art must also reflect diverse perspectives and cultures, as everyone should see themselves represented in the Gallery.
