Napoleon Wine Bistro

In an intimate 54-seater space, this wine bar places proud emphasis on vino from the Old World, with 32 European wines rotated every week alongside a Grands Crus selection – the highest level of vineyard classification in Burgundy, France. Owner Jean-Christophe Cadoret works closely with his team in France to select wines for import. You don’t have to commit to a full glass either, there are tasting (25ml) and half-portions (75ml). If complex vino jargon puts you off the stuff, worry not, because wine is demystified here: reds are divided into categories such as ‘smooth’, ‘fruity’ and ‘spicy’, while whites are split into ‘dry’, ‘rich’ and so forth, complete with a colour-coding system so you’ll have an idea of the colour of your drink.

Napoleon Bonaparte remains known as a major contributor to the post-revolutionary modernisation of the French state. His name remains an important representative of French culture and art-de-vivre abroad.

Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, also known as Napoleon III, nephew of the aforementioned, took over the mission of his uncle in bringing France into the industrialised age. One of his achievements was to request from Bordeaux wine merchants a classification of Bordeaux wines for the Universal Exposition of 1855. A classification still in use in our modern and globalised wine trade.

By calling our restaurant Napoleon, we want to pay tribute to what these two historical figures have done for French culture and wines.

Located at the entrance, Napoleon’s portrait, a unique artwork by French artist Gabriel Dufourcq, welcomes you in our restaurant. The portrait of the Emperor is painted on original documents about his political actions and leadership, dating from the 19th century.
