The MV Krait is an important vessel in Australian naval history. Originally built in 1938 as a fishing boat, it gained fame during World War II for its role in a daring and successful raid against Japanese shipping. The Krait was repurposed for special operations and was used in the famous “Operation Jaywick” in 1943, where it carried a group of Australian commandos who executed a covert operation to sabotage Japanese ships in Singapore Harbour.
After the war, the MV Krait was returned to civilian life and later fell into disrepair. It was eventually restored and is now preserved as a museum ship at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney. The Krait serves as a testament to the courage and ingenuity of the Australian Special Operations forces during the war and offers visitors a glimpse into the innovative tactics used in naval warfare.
