Museum of Sacred Art of Bilbao: Collection of religious-themed Biscayan art, including sculptures, paintings & jewelry. A spiritual journey through centuries of sacred heritage. The Museum of Sacred Art of Bilbao, also known as Eleiz Museoa, is housed in the former Convent of the Incarnation, a 16th-century building located at Plaza de la Encarnación, 9B, 48006 Bilbao. Established in 1995, the museum showcases a rich collection of over 2,000 religious artifacts, including sculptures, paintings, goldsmithing, and liturgical garments, spanning from the 12th to the 20th century. These pieces, originating from various churches, hermitages, and convents across Bizkaia, reflect the region’s profound spiritual and artistic heritage.
Visitors can explore the museum’s permanent exhibitions, which are organized into three main sections: sculpture and painting, goldsmithing, and liturgical ornaments. The museum also features a specialized library dedicated to religious art and offers an immersive “scape room” experience themed around the Atxuri Abbey.
