Museum of Modern Literature

The permanent exhibition in the Literaturmuseum der Moderne is about nothing less than the soul of German literature. What is literature? What can she do? What remains of her when you search for her in the archive from 1899 to 2001?

The large permanent exhibition space is complemented by a virtual museum of the 21st century. Century.

The large temporary exhibitions also take place in the Literature Museum of Modernism, which thematically present the holdings of the archive and are a laboratory for a wide variety of research projects such as the “Network of Literary Experience”. “WortSpielZeuge” by Hans Magnus Enzensberger invite you to play with language and unusual forms of reading. Three-dimensional objects with names such as “The Eternal Return”, “Handful” and “The Snake Summoning” from the holdings of the German Literary Archive enable a playful-interactive access to language and literature.

The Modern Literature Museum, designed by David Chipperfield Architects, was opened in 2006 and was awarded the Stirling Prize in 2007.
