Museum Fondation Zinsou, Cotonou, Benin
The Fondation Zinsou, an exhibition space for contemporary artists, has seen its action grow and expand since June 2005, while maintaining its international standards in order to radiate beyond the continent’s borders.
In addition to the exhibition activities of the Zinsou Foundation, the creation of a permanent collection has proved essential to contribute to the preservation of the African artistic heritage, on the land of its origins. Preserving contemporary art in Africa today is fundamental to the relocation of creators that responds to a virtually non-existent art market on the continent. Faced with this, the Zinsou family, passionate about art, collected contemporary African works, enlightened by an aesthetic and cultural commitment.
This collection served as a starting point for the project that was mentioned at the opening of the Zinsou Foundation eight years ago: the creation of a museum of contemporary art in Africa.
