Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima, Peru
MAC Lima is the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lima that was founded in 2013 and today is the only one of the city’s museums focused on promoting and exhibiting contemporary and modern art .
It is located at the entrance of Barranco , an artistic district of Lima, in an area of more than 14 thousand square meters where the museum buildings, an artificial lagoon, the Museum Café and extensive green areas make the MAC Lima a Cultural recreation center in the middle of the sometimes chaotic capital of Peru.
The museum’s origins date back to 1955 with the creation of the Institute of Contemporary Art (IAC), the current managing institution of the MAC Lima that for a long time held exhibitions in other artistic venues in the city. But at the end of the 80s the IAC decided to build its own museum, an objective it achieved in 2013.
