Basque History Museum

Basque history museum in a 17th-century building with cultural & occupational Exhibits. Showcasing Basque ethnography, archaeology, and history within a 17th-century building.

Bilbao’s Cultural Heartbeat in the Old Town. The Museo Vasco, or Euskal Museoa, is a cornerstone of Bilbao’s cultural identity. Housed in a 17th-century Jesuit building in the Casco Viejo, it offers a deep dive into Basque history, ethnography, and archaeology. With over 20,000 objects, its exhibits cover maritime heritage, traditional crafts, and the region’s industrial past.

The museum is currently closed for a comprehensive renovation, which began in October 2021. As of now, there is no public reopening date. During this period, the museum’s collections have been temporarily relocated to a secure storage facility. For updates on the renovation progress and eventual reopening, it’s advisable to monitor the official website or affiliated cultural platforms.
