Musee de Houet, Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso

Located in the heart of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso, the Sogossira Sanon Municipal Museum opened its doors in March 1990. On Friday 03 November 2017, we had a tour. First observation, it is often empty of visitors. Yet its main mission is the conservation and enhancement of the history of communities in the West, Burkina Faso in general.

It is already twenty seven  years that the municipal museum Sogossira Sanou is at the service of the development of the municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso. Located in the heart of the city, this museum was born thanks to the combined efforts of three communities, namely the Bobo, Fulani and Senufo communities. Indeed, these communities have decided together to set up this museum, in order to allow future generations to know at least their wealth, “what we have as cultural heritage.” Thus, these three communities in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso have decided to transform the building, which is colonial and also traces history with its French settlers, into a museum. In this step,

Known as the Houet Provincial Museum or National Museum, this museum will change its name on May 17, 2011 and will become Sogossira Sanon Communal Museum.
