Mount Tantalus
Mount Tantalus offers challenging terrain and stunning alpine vistas for experienced climbers. Mount Tantalus, located in the Tantalus Range of British Columbia’s Coast Mountains, is a prominent peak rising to 2,603 meters. The mountain is renowned for its challenging terrain, making it a sought-after destination for experienced mountaineers and climbers. The surrounding Tantalus Provincial Park, established in 1998, encompasses a vast area of pristine alpine wilderness, including notable features such as Lake Lovely Water, Zenith Lake, Sigurd Lake, and Madden Falls.
Access to Mount Tantalus is typically via the Tantalus Glacier Trail, which begins at the Rubble Creek parking area near Garibaldi Provincial Park. The trail is approximately 10 kilometers one-way, with an elevation gain of about 1,500 meters, leading to the Tantalus Glacier. Due to the technical nature of the terrain, including glacier travel and crevasse navigation, it is recommended that only experienced mountaineers attempt the ascent. The area is also known for its unpredictable weather conditions, which can change rapidly, adding to the challenge.
