And although the Nazis intended to use the “fruits” of the struggle against religion, which was conducted for several pre-war decades in the Soviet Union, Soviet Muslims from the first days of the war showed their patriotism. The Muslim clergy called on believers to fight with their enemies. On May 15-17, 1942, a congress of the Muslim clergy in Ufa was held, in which representatives of Muslims from all over the Soviet Union participated.
“The appeal of representatives of the Muslim clergy to the believers over the fascist German aggression”, adopted at the congress, said: “The German fascist invaders, without declaring war, treacherously attacked the Soviet Union, liberated the oppressed nations, which gave equality to all the peoples of the Union, and the culture of the country, which has always pursued the most peaceful policy
