Monkey Valley, Romagna, Poitou-Charentes, France

Dedicated to the protection of primates, this wooded park (16ha/40acres) provides a natural habitat which seems to meet with its inhabitants’ approval, since it has seen the birth of numerous rare species.

It has France’s largest group of gorillas (a dozen or so animals) and Europe’s largest group of chimpanzees (also a dozen or so), in addition to 17 bonobos (the only ones in France). Some 400 lemur monkeys roam free here, with nothing between them and the visitors. Don’t miss feeding time.
