Monastery of St. Benedict, Olinda, State of Pernambuco, Brazil

Located in Largo do Amparo, the Church of Our Lady of Amparo was built in 1613 by the Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Amparo of the Pardos Men. Less than two decades after it was built, the church was partially destroyed by a fire caused by the Dutch in 1631. In 1644, the church was rebuilt.

The construction, on the other hand, differs from the other Churches of Olinda, since it has more lateral altars. On the altars of the Church of Our Lady of Amparo, in turn, stand out the beautiful golden carvings. Of great cultural value, the baroque images present in the temple exalt the sacred art.

In the Church of Our Lady of Amparo, there is a single side corridor to the nave, on the side of the Gospel. During the last restoration, completed in 1992, Portuguese tiles from the 16th century were covered by a wooden lining.
