Mayumba Beach, Gabon
Closer to the Republic of Congo than to Libreville, Mayumba feels like the edge of the earth. This marine national park extends 15km out to sea and just 1km inland, encompassing glorious beaches and forest around the Banio Lagoon. Some 550 leatherback turtles – in fact 30% of the world’s total – lay their eggs here between November and April.
