Mayors office, London City Hall, London

The Mayor’s role as the executive of London’s strategic authority is to promote economic development and wealth creation, social development, and improvement of the environment. The Mayor also has various other duties in relation to culture and tourism, including responsibility for Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square.

We live in a city unrivalled anywhere in the world for the breadth and quality of its arts and culture. This means hardwiring culture into London’s economic and social development, making it a 24 hour city, shouting about our creativity around the globe and making sure every Londoner has the chance to engage with and benefit from culture.

London faces some serious challenges to stay a world city of culture for future generations. Only a third of Londoners feel they make the most of the culture on their doorstep.

London is home to world famous institutions like the British Museum, the Tate and the V&A, and the Mayor wants every Londoner to feel able to access our fantastic arts and culture. We want to work with those who share our vision to open our culture to more of London’s communities. It is this culture that makes London the best city on the planet. And it is for everyone.
